How we make our shoes

Birki's knows what families want. Most of our shoe designers have families of their own, so they know what is important. They only develop shoes that they would let their own children wear.

Those who seek comfort today should also think about tomorrow. For this reason, we strictly observe seven basic principles:

Health is a priority:
The anatomical designed Birki's footbed reinforces the muscles and relieves the joints and ligaments.

Natural materials:
Nothing is healthier than what nature provides us: cork and natural rubber, for instance.

Environmental protection is a must:
Little waste, no solvents; instead, solar technology and energy-saving production.

Conservation of resources:
For the cork used for our footbeds, the most conservative methods are employed in the harvesting of Cork Oak bark.

Recycling is a part of our programme:
Our production waste is turned into playground equipment and sporting grounds covers.

Creating nature protection areas:
At every plant we create ecological compensation areas.

Made in Germany:
We can only guarantee our own quality and environment maxims in Germany.

That is how we make our shoes.
